Recognising your purpose

Wondering what it is you’re doing and how you ended up here?
Feeling undervalued?
Or that every day you’re pushing yourself to make it through?
It might be that you knew what you wanted to achieve when you first took on the role, but somehow that’s got lost as it’s not turned out to be what you expected.
It might be that you took your role because it was the best offer you had and you saw it as a stepping stone to where you wanted to be, but that path is no longer clear.
It might be that you have achieved what you wanted, and now you’re unsure what it is you want.
Without a sense of purpose it can feel like you’re treading water, going through the motions, just getting by day-to-day. And that can also make it hard for you to recognise what motivates you and gives you a sense of purpose. If you’re in a leadership role this can also have an effect on the people you work with, their motivation and their sense of purpose.

If you’re struggling to answer them, stop.
How are you feeling?
Tired? Harried? Frustrated? Lost?
It can be difficult to think openly and more expansively, if you’re feeling constricted in some way.
Consider thinking about these questions at a time when you’re feeling a little more relaxed.
Perhaps you’ve shared a joke with colleagues, family or friends, done something you’ve enjoyed doing, had a discussion which has felt positive.
How are you feeling now?
