Recognising your purpose

So you know what you’re doing.

You’re clear on that.

But what is everyone else doing?

Sometimes wondering what everyone else is doing is a distraction, but if you’re a team working together to deliver a piece of work trusting that everyone is pulling in the same direction is an important part of working together.

So how can you ensure you’re all on the same page?

Shared purpose?

All committed to that purpose?

Here are a number of different ways you could do this

·      Share your purpose openly and clearly

·      Inspire others with your purpose

·      Demonstrate your commitment to your purpose in all that you do

·      Actively seek others input to create a shared purpose built up by the team

Bringing people together with common purpose gives people direction, goals to aim for, and helps overcome challenges. It can help build trust and team spirit and contribute to a sense of achievement as tasks are accomplished.

Last year I created a sketchnote on mission and vision, which are interlinked with purpose, which you can see below.
So how are you going to share your purpose with your team?

What drives you? Are you in it for the long-game, or do you need to see success and progress each step of the way? Here I share how I'm driven by a desire for 'instant-gratification' and how that plays out in work.

How often do you get caught in situations where you can't say no? The pressures on and yet it's impossible to turn down the work you've just been lined up to take on. It's not straightforward to simply step back. Here's my recent experience of trying to balance that out for myself.
