It’s catching!

Self-awareness

Everything looks grey. Like the clouds overhead.
I try to shake it off.
But like the rain, this feels incessant.
I stare at my inbox.
Eventually I start wading through the email.
The day has begun.
I realise I’m not really speaking to anyone.
And neither are they speaking to me.
I start a conversation.
It’s perfunctory.
Over quickly.
A little bit of trepidation starts to creep up.
I keep checking the clock.
Distracted.
I’ve got to be ready.
This meeting’s important.
Suddenly I’m up and out the door.
Not sure where I’m going, but at least I’m moving.
I start to think about the meeting.
And finally begin to mentally prep for it.
A forced smile.
A handshake.
I’m trying to be enthused.
We get down to business.
We part.
Smiling.
Agreement we have common goals and interests.
A light-hearted comment from them, we both laugh.
We’ll meet again.
To move things forward.
Walking back, feeling energised.
I smile and say hello.
“you look happier than this morning, good meeting?”
Yes, yes it was a good meeting.
Their cheerfulness, enthusiasm has lifted me.
Given me a boost.
I get on with the rest of my day, brighter, more purposeful.

Moods can be caught, just like a cold.
And sometime that can be a positive thing, it can turn a day around.
So now when I realise I may be infecting others with my mood, I try to find ways to change it. Because if I help myself first, then I know I’ll be helping others.
