What has been and what is to come...

Look to the future!

And suddenly the end of the year is almost here…

Relief?

Disbelief?

Where did that year disappear to?!?

My mind flits back to the beginning of the year.

I start ruminating on things that happened.

I find myself dwelling on times and events that were difficult.

On the I should haves.

On the I could have done betters.

Stop that!

I can’t change the past.

I draw in a breath. Slowly. Counting to 4.

Hold.

Breathe out. Slowly. Counting to 6.

So focus on the future.

What I can do something about.

I set aside time in my calendar to set my goals for 2019, what I want to achieve and where I want to be at the end of the year.

I start to feel a spark of excitement in the pit of my stomach. Ideas begin to fizz. Hurriedly I scrawl them down. Trying to capture their essence.

I’ll coalesce them into something more tangible later.

As I think about the future, I remember what I’ve achieved this year and I smile.

It’s a good feeling. And as a reward I’m taking time out away from work. Time to focus on other things. Spending time and catching up with people important to me. I’m looking forward to it.

I hope you too have a good Christmas, and that you’re excited by what the New Year holds for you.
