Refreshing a lost habit
Rediscovering reflection time and the value of creativity

I'm sitting staring at the page.
The blank white space illuminated in front of me.
It's hard to fill. I don't quite know what to say.
A few years ago, I built up a habit of blogging. It wasn't easy but it was useful.
Coalescing thoughts...
Sharing ideas...
Highlighting some of the wisdom and learning I've discovered over time.
But suddenly I stopped.
And once I stopped it was hard to restart.
It's hard to say exactly what brought me to a halt. Some of it was the amount of time it took, some of it was wondering if writing was worthwhile, and some of it was my inner voice wondering if I really had anything more to say.
Of course, I did! But still, somehow the habit lapsed.
There's always a tension and a conundrum for me about writing. It's creative, and when I get into the flow, I enjoy it. But to get into the flow requires time.
Time for me to slow down.
Time to think more deeply.
Time to formulate words and share them cohesively.
And when time is restricted by commitments, deadlines, a long to do list, taking time to write... well it's one of the first things to let go of.
But I'm recognising that it's been something I have missed doing. It is worthwhile. And having paused to consider what I want to focus my time and attention on, I've returned to writing.
So here it is. My first piece of writing in a while!

And how about for you?
What habit might you have dropped?
What do you drop when your time is constrained?
Time for thinking? The pause to address challenges more creatively?
What might you need to do, to readjust and have that creative thinking time back on your agenda?
